The Sun poem, published by Sara Ting in 1985, sends a powerful message of unity, equity and humanity. Scroll down to learn about the poem, the song, and the proposed landmark monument.

The Sun Poem

The Sun poem has appeared on billboards in NYC and across 26 states, and received recognitions from world leaders. This image is the design of the billboard.

Sara Ting encourages the Sun Poem to be widely used in K-12 curriculum. The simple language and message make it especially suitable for elementary schools.

Lyrics

All were given this gift and so we are equally here to equally grow.
Are you greater than the sun that shines on everyone?
No matter who you are, we all see the stars.
Black, brown, yellow, red and white,
the sun does not discriminate.
No matter who you are, we all see the stars.

Babies born everyday,
All colors of the human race.
And teach them love and show the way,
For one day they will take our place.

Are you greater than the sun that shines on everyone?
No matter who you are, we all see the stars.
Black, brown, yellow, red and white,
the sun does not discriminate.
No matter who you are, we all see the stars.
